AKKI ROTTI

The very famous dish of Karnataka "Akki Rotti", for kannadiga's there is no need for an introduction to this recipe. Akki Rotti means rice flat bread, it is made using rice flour. It was always our Sunday special breakfast at our home. My mom's Akki Rotti, with some butter and kadalebele chutney (chana dal chutney) is our family favorite. Today I am going to show the simple recipe of akki rotti. We have Masala Akki Rotti, Ragi Rotti I will share its recipe soon if you like this one. But lets get started with this simple recipe.

AKKI ROTTI

Ingredients

1 medium Sized Onion

1 1/2 -2 Cups Rice Flour

2-3 Green Chillies

2-3 Tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Salt to taste

1 Tsp Cumin seeds

Oil as required

2-3 Strings Curry Leaves

Water as required

Method

Step 1

Chop the onions, green chillies, curry leaves finely and add it in mixing bowl. Add chopped coriander leaves, cumin seeds, salt and rice flour.

Step 2

Mix it well then add water little by little and make it a soft dough which is smooth to spread.

Step 3

Grease a pan / banana leaf with oil and take a handful of dough. Keep the dough in the middle and start to pat. Make it as thin as possible.Make a hole in middle

Step 4

Keep the pan and switch on the flame. Cook on medium flame by covering it with a lid.

If using banana leaf then heat the pan for a minute, peel the banana leaf slowly without breaking your rotti.

Step 5

Roast till brown spots appear and cook the other side. Serve it hot with coconut chutney / channa dal chutney and butter.

Notes

Grease the pan or banana leaf before patting the rotti, as it will be easy to remove and it also makes rotti little crunchy.

If you feel the dough is little hard to pat and move wet your hands with water as it helps in patting.

Water required to make the dough depends on the flour and onions so i have not mentioned it, I added approximately 1 1/4 cup of water. You will get to know when you are mixing, Add little by little water.
