BALEKAYI PALYA/RAW BANANA STIR-FRY

I always love to add vegetables in my daily menu. One such addition is Balekayi/Raw Banana. Balekayi Palya/Raw Banana stir-fry is prepared with Plantains. It is very healthy and easy to prepare side dish which goes well with rice, chapatti, or roti.

Plantains are a great source of Potassium, they help in Regulating the Digestive System.

Looking to boost your immune system? Then plantains are perfect to boost your immune system. Vitamin B6 present in plantains promote healthy brain function.

Lets get started with this simple and healthy recipe.

BALEKAYI PALYA/RAW BANANA STIR-FRY

Ingredients

1 - Raw Banana

I Tbsp - Oil

1/2 Tsp - Mustard Seeds

1 Tsp - Urad Dal

1 Tsp - Channa Dal

2 - Green chillies (finely chopped)

5-6 - Curry leaves

1/4 Tsp - Turmeric powder

Water as required

1/4 Tsp - Asafetida

1 Tbsp - Fresh grated coconut

1 Tbsp - Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

1 Tsp - Lemon Juice

Method

Step 1

Wash and peel a thin layer of raw banana. Steam cook for 15 minutes on medium flame. Do not make it mushy.

Step 2

Peel the outer skin once it's cooked and make small cubes.

Step 3

Heat oil in a pan and once it is heated add mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds start to splutter add urad dal and channa dal.

Step 4

Once dal turns golden in color add chopped green chilies and curry leaves.

Step 5

Add turmeric powder and chopped Balekayi/raw banana. Add salt to taste and 1/2 cup of water, mix well and cover it with a lid. Cook on low heat for 2 minutes.

Step 6

Add asafetida, coconut and coriander leaves. Mix well.

Step 7

Switch off the flame and add lemon juice and mix well.

Notes

I have added 1/2 cup of water for the raw banana to cook after steam cooking, you can adjust it as required.

Don't over cook raw banana while steam cooking, it should be 90% cooked otherwise it will be very mushy and you will not be able to cut it into cubes.
