NELLIKAYI GULUMBA/ GOOSEBERRY JAM/ AMLA MURABBA

NELLIKAYI GULUMBA is a tasty and healthy recipe from Karnataka. It is prepared using Gooseberry/ Amla/ Nellikayi. Here is a simple recipe for Nellikayi Gulumba where gooseberries are cooked and added in sugar syrup and flavoured with cardamom. My brother loves this and has a spoonful of gulumba in the morning. Gulumba tastes great with roti, chapati, dosa or even just like that you can have a spoon full of gulumba, it tastes great(recommended by my brother)!

So lets get started with this simple and tasty recipe...

Ingredients

2 cups - Gooseberries (grated )

2 cups - Sugar 1/2 cup- Water

1/4 Tsp- Cardamom powder

Method

Step 1

In a pan add grated gooseberries and cover lid and cook for 2 minutes or till gooseberries are cooked. Check and stir in between.

Step 2

Once cooked switch off the flame. Keep it aside and let it cool.

Step 3

On a medium flame add sugar and water in a pan. Stir & mix well, sugar dissolves.

Step 4

Check for one-thread consistency. Add cooked gooseberries and mix well. Let it come to a boil.

Step 5

Switch off the flame and let it cool. Once it cools add cardamom powder and mix well. Nellikayi Gulumba is ready.

Notes

Don’t add water while cooking gooseberries, as gooseberries have enough water to cook them.

Don't over boil the mixture, allow it to boil once else the gooseberries might release water.
